Clarian De Landanis: An Early Spanish Book of Chivalry (Hispanic Monographs)
Published in Paperback by Juan de la Cuesta (December, 1995)
Authors: Gabriel Velazquez De Castillo, Gunnar Anderson, and Gabriel Velbazquez De Castillo
Average review score:

An excellent model for studies on Spanish Chivalry books
Not published since the XVIth century, due to the disappearence of the Chivalric novels in Spanish literature (mostly due to Don Quixote), Don Clarian de Landanis offers an excellent model for studies about that genre. Some of his pages may be boring for some XXth century readers not familiarized with Renassaince literature, but it is a remarkable work, that gave birth to a saga of 4 more books about his issue and was very popular at that time. The author shows a high degree of geographical and historical culture, and the book is full of very interesting episodes. I highly praise those who took the decision to make the book be printed again.

Cleopatra of Egypt: From History to Myth.
Published in Hardcover by Princeton Univ Pr (14 May, 2001)
Authors: Susan Walker, Peter Higgs, and R. G. W. Anderson
Average review score:

Great resource for Cleopatra
If pressed, I'd almost say that this is the single best book on Cleopatra. Granted, there are critical biographies, historical accounts, and all sorts of other sources, but this massive book is unique in that it shows nearly every sculpture, coin, or papyrus that can be tied directly to Egypt's last independent ruler. Its fascinating to finally see how Cleopatra presented herself to her subjects -- in traditional Egyptian style for the local population, in Greek style to the Greco-Roman world at large. It's also sobering to see how little remains of her reign. The Romans went after her Greek-style statues, but since they didn't understand Egyptian art, many works of art in that style survive. Besides the impressive visuals, the book includes important essays on many different parts of Cleopatra's reign, life in Alexandria, and the legends that have swirled around Cleopatra after her death. A good comprehensive look at this famous queen, scholarly and readable. But boy, those visuals...!

Combinatorics of Finite Sets
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (September, 1993)
Authors: Pamela Anderson Lee and Ian C. Anderson
Average review score:

Masterpiece
This book is excellent. I should sincerely congratulate to Prof. Ian Anderson.
The book's subject is about one of the most beautiful and important parts of mathematics, where any result could be one gem.
I think that better than this is not possible, although the book is very cheap, but the reader can obtain the very nice and valuable results of the branch of mathematics once.

Communication Theory: Epistemological Foundations
Published in Hardcover by Guilford Press (17 May, 1996)
Author: James Anderson
Average review score:

Cute guy, great data
Jim Anderson is one of the better thinkers writing about the study of communication. Like his books on media and the epistemological foundations of communication theory, this work is a classic in the field as much because of its fugue-like writing style as its thorough overview of quantitative and qualitative research methods. His vision of both is washed with a strong moral vision. His discussion of member participation and marginality will give you a sense of his concerns. "Observational distancing can turn people into subjects -- objects of study. Membership requires passion. A stake in the outcomes that affect people. If the researcher is to achieve membership, what happens has to make a difference. the analyst cannot remain objective, detached from the scene" (p. 320). This book is highly recommended for graduate students in communication study.

Compendium of Soil Fungi
Published in Hardcover by Lubrecht & Cramer Ltd (June, 1995)
Authors: K. H. Domsch, W. Gams, and Traute-Heidi Anderson
Average review score:

A classical book
I work at Universidad de Buenos Aires, my main is Food Mycology. I have being using the "Compendium of Soil Fungi" for several years as a very useful tool for determining fungi; particullarly, complementing the classical literature in my research field. I think this book was very carefully thought and written. The authors have introduced each taxa sintetically, but pointing out the more important morphological aspects to be taken into account. The keys and descriptions are practical and accurate ones respectively; the illustrations and photographies are very clear. In addition, physiological aspects were treated in extenso for a lot of taxa. The bibliographical support is actually wide, and takes one of the two Compendium's volumes. In conclussion, I feel this book, which was written in 1980, has a place within the classics.

The Compleat Dr. Rowing
Published in Paperback by Bend the Timber Press (07 October, 2001)
Author: Andy Anderson
Average review score:

Judge a book by it's cover
Since Dr. Rowing is, of course, the quintessential expert on the subject, there is no better book to read. It is excellent.
I must comment on the cover illustration, however. It was obviously designed by someone with great talent and class. Could it have been designed by his sister, Sally Anderson?
